Remedy has once again brought updates on the remake of Max Payne, which includes the first two games in the franchise. According to screenwriter Sam Lake, the project in development is actually something “very, very big”.

During an interview with VGC, the Remedy co-founder confirmed that his teams are working hard on the games. Remaking them for current consoles is a “significant undertaking” where a lot of resources are involved.
It's a significant undertaking in the sense that even though they're old games, just thinking about bringing them up to modern standards and combining them into one, you can see that it's a very, very big project.

Lake also acts, in the first game, as Max Payne. Now, when asked about a possible return to the lead role, he just laughed and ignored any topic related to his participation.
No comments! This is going too far.

The remake of Max Payne 1 and 2 is in development for next-gen consoles and PC. There is still no estimated release date confirmed by the studio.

Max Payne 1 and 2 remake is in the conceptual phase

Recently, Remedy confirmed that the Max Payne 1 and 2 remake is in the very early stages of development. Still in the concept phase, the games should take a long time to be released.

In April last year, Remedy revealed that it is working on remakes of Max Payne 1 and 2 in partnership with Rockstar. Now, in its most recent report for investors, released last Friday (10), the company confirmed that both titles are still in the conceptual phase.

Furthermore, the studio stated that it currently has an “ambitious” goal: to develop five AAA games. This, in fact, is one of the reasons why the free-to-play shooter Vanguard was postponed last year. Check out:
The remakes of Max Payne 1 and 2 remain in the conceptual phase. The project has progressed well. We look forward to bringing this beloved character to life again for a new generation of consoles and a new generation of fans.

We now have five AAA games in development, which has been our ambitious goal. The move to this multi-project model is going well, but we have also experienced some growing pains with the implementation of our model, as was partially evidenced in the summer of 2022 with the additional time needed for the Vanguard project.

It's worth remembering that, in addition to the remakes of Max Payne 1 and 2, Remedy is also working on the long-awaited Control 2 and Alan Wake 2 — the latter, in fact, is already playable from start to finish.

Max Payne 1 and 2 remakes will only be released for the new generation

In a note released in April last year, Remedy confirmed that the remakes of Max Payne 1 and 2 are only being developed for PS5, Xbox Series X|S and PC. The graphics engine used in production is Northlight, from the studio itself.
