One of the company's biggest names, Sergiy Galyonkin laid the foundation for the launch of the Epic Games Store
After announcing a 16% reduction in its workforce, Epic Games suffered a huge loss this week. Sergiy Galyonkin, former director of editorial strategy, leaves the company after almost 8 years of service.

In a statement on social media, Galyonkin stated that he left his position due to disagreements with the direction the company is taking. He mentioned that there are “different types” of people and criticized the publisher’s decision to adopt the “5.0” platform concept.

In addition to being the creator of Steam Spy, the former director was also one of the main people responsible for launching the Epic Games Store. His role was also important in the popularization of Fortnite, by challenging the “status quo in game distribution with an 88/12 revenue split”.

It is not yet clear whether Galyonkin's goodbye was motivated by the layoff of more than 800 employees, recently announced by the company. For the future, the dev will remain in the gaming industry, but without worrying “about the public relations department”.

Fall Guys will remain a priority for Epic Games

Epic Games has confirmed that the layoffs at Mediatonic should not impact support for Fall Guys. According to the company, the free-to-play battle royale will continue to be treated as a priority.

After a series of layoffs that made the news this week, Epic Games released an emphatic statement, ensuring that it still has Fall Guys as a “priority”. The company's strategy aims to preserve Mediatonic's work, despite the impact suffered by the studio.

The major changes to Epic's workforce are expected to reach 830 employees — around 16% of total employees. As Mediatonic employed nearly 300 people, the cuts came as harsh news to many developers.

Due to the magnitude of the situation, some reports stated that the studio was completely dismembered, with the potential to be closed in the future. As a result, the company owner spoke out and denied all the rumors, reinforcing the importance of Fall Guys as a portfolio.

“This is false,” said a spokesperson (via VGC ). “Mediatonic’s work on Fall Guys continues to be a priority for the company.”

So far, it is not possible to estimate how many people were affected by Epic Games' decision. Additionally, it's unclear how battle royale support will continue.
